The Homer Project is a domestic exhibition project space located in Los Angeles, CA in a 1910 bungalow.

Parthenia Projects is an artist-run space in the Northridge neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley, a suburb of Los Angeles, CA.

Parthenia Projects is a cultural node of individual and collaborative artistic endeavors, historically and present. One part family residence, and one part artist studio, it is tied to the land by evolving site projects and other interventions.  As a social setting, occasionally doors are open for temporary, public events.

Belle View

For this alternative version--a different time and place to be sure--we will address similar concerns with the same proposed structure in an alternate locale as a live-stream event.  Rather than experience sights and sounds directly, they will be virtual, yet another opportunity to wonder about what kind of space is what kind of space---public, private, insider or out…

For OPaf 2020, the original plan was for The Homer Project to take itself on the road so to speak, to bring its mission and concepts of home and art to Angel’s Gate Park with its current artist Justin Lowman. In so doing, the plan is to create something of a similar, generous intention with respect to “opening one’s doors,” or a “gate.” By exploring the specific layers of the park’s local history, including the proximity and

presence of the Korean Friendship Bell, itself a complex symbol of social relationships, architecture and sonic vibration. While not exactly a family dwelling, it does indeed function with familiarity towards such things; intimate relationships, partnerships, traditions, and integrated identities. The intention of this proposal is to create a multisensory site that partially absorbs the surroundings to reflect something akin to friendly relations--- alternative art spaces, artists, and varied audiences--- at the very least a space to pass through to contemplate such things, not unlike a strange door and its access with a bell. In keeping with the theme of “opening one’s doors,” here the intent to share one’s private space with the public could be flipped and allow for a public space to be considered open for a more solitary experience.
